Specifications

Sartopure® GF Plus Cartridges

Sartopure® GF Plus Cartridges are adsorptive depth filter elements for clarification and prefiltration in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical process streams. The cartridge format is designed for use in stainless steel housings and supports scalable filtration setups from process development to manufacturing. A two-layer pleated glass-fiber fleece combines adsorptive and mechanical retention to reduce colloids, lipids, protein aggregates and particles before downstream process steps.

Main Formats:

  • Retention Ratings: Available in 0.65 µm and 1.2 µm to support selection based on feed stream composition, particulate load and downstream filtration requirements.
  • Cartridge Sizes: Available in 10", 20", 30" and 40" formats with nominal filtration areas from 0.4 m² to 1.6 m².
  • Housing-Based Format: Designed for installation in stainless steel filter housings, supporting reusable process setups and scale-up across filtration areas.
  • Mini Cartridge Option: Compact cartridge format available for small-volume processing, process development and scale-down studies using the Sartopure® GF Plus filter material concept.

Applications:

  • Cell Culture Harvest Clarification: Helps reduce particles, colloids, lipids and protein aggregates in cell culture fluids after harvest.
  • Fermentation Broth Prefiltration: Suitable for clarification before downstream membrane filtration, chromatography or ultrafiltration steps.
  • Media and Serum Filtration: Applicable for serum-free or serum-containing cell culture media, serum and fluids containing lipid or colloidal contaminants.
  • Viscous Pharmaceutical Solutions: Can be used for prefiltration of viscous ophthalmic and large-volume parenteral solutions.
  • Downstream Process Protection: Helps reduce contaminant load before membrane filters, chromatography columns and ultrafiltration systems.

Materials Used:

  • Filter Medium: Double-layer glass-fiber fleece for combined adsorptive and mechanical particle retention.
  • Support Fleece: Polypropylene.
  • Core and End Caps: Polypropylene.
  • O-Rings: Silicone as standard, with EPDM or fluoroelastomer options depending on configuration and process requirements.
  • Regulatory-Related Product Information: Non-pyrogenic according to USP Bacterial Endotoxins test and passes USP Plastic Class VI test, according to product documentation.

Advantages:

  • Adsorptive Depth Filtration: Glass-fiber fleece supports reduction of colloids, lipids, protein aggregates and particles in challenging process streams.
  • Defined Retention Options: 0.65 µm and 1.2 µm ratings allow adaptation to different clarification and prefiltration needs.
  • Scalable Cartridge Range: 10" to 40" cartridge sizes support process transfer from smaller setups to larger manufacturing volumes.
  • Reusable Housing Integration: Cartridge design supports use in stainless steel housings for established biopharmaceutical filtration workflows.
  • Sterilization Options: Cartridges can be autoclaved or steam sterilized in-line within specified operating limits.
  • Process Compatibility: Polypropylene support and structural components support use across a range of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical process fluids.
  • Downstream Efficiency Support: By reducing particulate and colloidal burden upstream, Sartopure® GF Plus Cartridges can help support performance of subsequent filtration and purification steps.

Together, these features make Sartopure® GF Plus Cartridges a suitable choice for clarification and prefiltration in product-contact biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical processing.
