Biowelder® S Kit for US|CA

Biowelder® S was developed to overcome challenges in cell and gene therapy. It enables fast sterile connection of small size PVC & TPE tubing in non-classified environment and Grade B & C clean rooms. By using a single blade instead of two sterile connectors, Biowelder® S keeps running costs low.

Biowelder® S was developed to fulfill specific demands of emerging Cell & Gene Therapies R&D as well as GMP manufacturing. Those are the fast and aseptic connection of small PVC or TPE tubes in non-classified areas as well as Grade B clean rooms at a low cost per connection. One key benefit is that just a single blade is consumed instead of two sterile connectors which usually are at a higher price tag. Common tubing sizes, which are covered by Biowelder® S are 3/32”x 5/32”, 1/8” x 3/16” and 1/8” x 1/4". Due to the coverage of TPE tubing this new device also fits best to the common biopharma welding demands in case of small sizes.

Cell & Gene Therapies’ needs for welding are today covered by instruments that have been developed for blood transfusion market and / or for biopharma market in case of large tubing diameters. Both are limiting the application, either not offering all sizes or not covering PVC and TPE and oblige users to buy multiple devices for one type of application. This is not only an additional investment & maintenance cost but takes away place in the R&D lab or manufacturing suite.

Biowelder® S is exactly closing this market gap by covering PVC and TPE in all CGT relevant sizes. Furthermore, Biowelder® S is compliant to paperless GMP manufacturing and can be operated in a Grade B cleanroom.

In the CGT space, there is a high need to integrate biopharma equipment and consumables in a workflow where both TPE and PVC are widely used throughout the process. The aim is to streamline process steps from sourcing/media prep to cell expansion in upstream, to clarification and cryopreservation in downstream.

Step of the process addressed

  • Sourcing: Collection bags
  • Media prep: Media bags/bottle and transfer bags
  • Cell expansion: Cell culture container and transfer set
