CIMmultus® SO4 is a mixed-mode, salt-tolerant, sulfate-based monolith. Strong cation-exchange, hydrophobic and hydrogen-bonding interactions enable efficient binding at moderate ionic strength or near the isoelectric point (pI). For example, it shows high lysozyme binding capacity at 300 mM NaCl.
Its unique features allow higher purity through selective binding at moderate-salt chromatographic conditions. Moderate ionic strength during loading suppresses nonspecific ionic interactions, while multimodal interactions enhance elution selectivity between the target and impurities (e.g. purification of FIX from a mixture of other coagulation factors). It can also serve as a heparin-alternative for selective binding of coagulation factors at moderate ionic strength. For example, CIMmultus® SO4 enables the separation of Factor XIa (FXIa) from IgG in Cohn Fraction II paste, a process developed during the modernization of the SCIG process in the process development collaboration with NBI (South Africa).
CIMmultus® SO4 retains all the benefits of other CIMmultus columns, providing a scalable chromatographic solution suitable for gentle, high-speed purification, with flow rates up to 2,400 L per hour using a 40-L CIMmultus® column.
