Overview

Specifications

Sartopure® PP3 Midicaps®

Sartopure® PP3 Midicaps® are compact, ready-to-use polypropylene fleece prefilters designed for particle reduction in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical process streams. They are suitable for small- to medium-volume filtration tasks, process development, scale-up studies and applications where an enclosed filter format is preferred. With retention ratings from 0.45 µm to 50 µm, Sartopure® PP3 Midicaps® help reduce particulate load and support protection of downstream membrane filters and process equipment.

Main Formats:

  • Midicaps® Format: Compact enclosed filter units designed for convenient handling in development, pilot-scale and limited-volume production workflows.
  • Retention Ratings: Available from 0.45 µm to 50 µm to support different particle reduction requirements and feed stream characteristics.
  • Filtration Areas: Offered in multiple sizes to support flexible use across process volumes and filtration needs.
  • Scalable Product Family: Part of the Sartopure® PP3 platform, enabling alignment with other formats such as mini cartridges, cartridges, Maxicaps® and capsules.

Applications:

  • Downstream Filter Protection: Used upstream of membrane filters to help reduce particle burden and support stable filtration processes.
  • Biopharmaceutical Clarification: Suitable for clarification steps in vaccine production, viral vector processing, including lentivirus applications, and other biopharmaceutical workflows.
  • Pharmaceutical Process Filtration: Applicable for ophthalmic solutions, large-volume parenterals, antibiotics, solvent-containing streams and other product-contact filtration steps.
  • Process Development and Scale-Up: Supports evaluation of prefiltration conditions before transfer to larger Sartopure® PP3 formats.
  • Small- to Medium-Volume Processing: The enclosed Midicaps® format supports practical use where compact filter devices are required.

Materials Used:

  • Filter Medium: Polypropylene fleece with multilayer fractionized retention for particle reduction and dirt-holding capacity.
  • Support, Core and Housing Components: Polypropylene construction for broad chemical compatibility.
  • O-Rings: Silicone as standard, with EPDM or fluoroelastomer options depending on configuration and process requirements.
  • Product-Contact Design: All-polypropylene filter construction supports use in regulated pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical applications.

Advantages:

  • Broad Retention Range: 0.45–50 µm options allow adaptation to different clarification and prefiltration requirements.
  • Broad Chemical Compatibility: Polypropylene materials support use with many acids, bases and solvents within specified operating conditions.
  • Low Unspecific Binding: Helps support product recovery in sensitive biopharmaceutical process streams.
  • Low Extractables Profile: Designed for product-contact filtration applications.
  • Compact Enclosed Format: Midicaps® units simplify handling and reduce the need for separate stainless steel housings.
  • Dirt-Holding Capacity: Multilayer fleece design supports particle loading and can help manage prefilter changeout frequency depending on process conditions.
  • Sterilization Options: Suitable for autoclaving or in-line steam sterilization within the specified limits for the selected configuration.

Together, these features make Sartopure® PP3 Midicaps® a practical prefiltration option for particle reduction, process flexibility and downstream filter protection in biopharmaceutical workflows.
